Poster designed for the occasion of the collective exhibition "Re_"
As every year, the Madrid Gráfica call for posters brings together hundreds of designers and graphic designers from around the world who were invited to make a reflection on different issues that concern citizens, and in an attractive way.
I'm happy to announce that my proposal was selected among the 100 best submitted ones :)
What is Re_?
The theme chosen for Madrid Gráfica 2021's edition is the Recovery of the activity, after the pandemic. And Re_ the inspiring motto, the obligatory and textual content for the exhibited posters, an invitation to describe the need and desire to reactivate our personal and work lives.
Restart, Revive and Recover are action verbs that correspond very well to this time in which it is urgent to relaunch life and economic activity, after the ordeal of the pandemic.
The proposal for this year has the obligatory motto Re_, a prefix that, in several languages, has a similar meaning: intensification, repetition and reconstruction. Here accompanied by that final underscore, it indicates an open continuation and a need for a complement. In other words, it invites you to introduce words that have meanings in accordance with this time of Restart and Resilience and that, at the same time, accommodate the graphic messages that each participant incorporates. Thus, the text after the base motto Re_ is optional and can be written in any language.
R for Regeneration
My idea came after the meaning of "Re" as the first syllable of repetition, but meant as regeneration. The syllable RE is repeated in fractal mode as a metaphor for "restart, revive, recover", but also: reproduce, reinterpret, recompose and regeneration ... Typography and language; colour and composition; abstraction and metaphor.
The exhibition can be seen in different locations in Madrid (Spain):
Central de Diseño de Matadero Madrid,
Plaza de Oriente and Plaza Juan Goytisolo (Reina Sofía).
Dates: From 23 September till 24 October 2021.
