Laura Meseguer Studio is a distinguished type and brand design studio based in Barcelona. For over 20 years, they have produced custom lettering and type for brands, cultural institutions, and publishers. Among other benefits custom typeface provides a unique visual identity that ensures brand consistency, legal security, and distinct architectural order across all communications.

The studio has designed typefaces and wordbrands for TOUS, Typeform, Het Parool, Ajuntament de Barcelona and Google, among others. Craftsmanship and collaboration are the hallmarks of their practice, imbuing traditional techniques with an experimental twist. Rigor and joy are their animating principles.

A bit of background:

Laura Meseguer, the studio founder, has loved letters since childhood, influenced by their family’s printing background. She studied graphic design and became a professional type designer and teacher after completing Type and Media at the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, The Netherlands. Laura is a proud founder of Type-Ø-Tones, one of the first digital type foundries in Spain. From 2017 till 2023, Laura was a board member of ATypI, an international non-profit organization dedicated to typography and typeface design whose annual conference has taken place every year since 1957. She’s a founding member of Alphabettes, a showcase for lettering, typography, and type design that supports and promotes the work of all women and nonbinary people in their fields.

Laura has been a typography and type design teacher for more than 15 years, some of her Master’s students have become accomplished professionals today. Since 2019, she has been the academic director of Tipo-g, an educational project in type design that gathers together Barcelona’s type design scene with future professionals. She also gives lectures and workshops around the world. Her typefaces are available on Type-Ø-Tones, several of which have won certificates of excellence from the Type Directors Club of New York and the Laus Prizes from the ADG-FAD in Spain. In 2018 she got the Premio Gràffica in recognition to her career “for paving a path in the typographic world in Spain.”

Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
May, 2018

“By being a designer, I can also be in charge of the content, become the editor, and create a project that combines both the content and the translation, working in the full process. This is the expansion of my craft”.
